Chantransia is a traditional meeting of young phycologists, students, PhD candidates, and everyone who cares about cyanobacteria and algae. Whether you study them in depth, encounter them in your bachelor’s or master’s thesis, or simply feel that this microscopic world might be something you would enjoy, you are warmly invited. This time, we will meet in Žumberk, in the Novohradské Mountains region of South Bohemia.
The programme will include lectures, student presentations, discussions, excursions, microscopy sessions, and evening conversations that often begin with algae and end somewhere completely different. For younger students, Chantransia is a great opportunity to get to know the field, find inspiration for a thesis, and discover that the phycological community is not only academically engaging, but also very friendly.
Do not hesitate to come even if you do not yet have your own research project or presentation. Curiosity, a willingness to meet new people, and the desire to spend a few days in the company of cyanobacteria, algae, and people who can talk about them for longer than one might expect are more than enough.
We look forward to seeing you in Žumberk in October!
Participants will be accommodated at the Pionýr Žumberk Tourist Base at the following address: Žumberk 9, 374 01 Žár – Žumberk
The facility has a capacity of approximately 50 people. Accommodation is provided in a building where the ground floor includes a kitchen, dining room, common hall with a stage, and sanitary facilities.
On the upper floor, there are three rooms available:
Room 1 – 5 beds
Room 2 – 6 beds
Room 3 – 6 beds
In addition to these rooms, the building also has two larger dormitory-style rooms, known as šalandy. Each šalanda can accommodate approximately 20 people. Sleeping is on mattresses.
Please bring: a sleeping bag and indoor slippers.
Accommodation fee: CZK 270 per person per night.
For students who will be presenting and receive financial support, accommodation will be partially or fully covered.
Meals are individual — everyone is free to arrange their food according to their own preferences, appetite, and level of hunger.
A fully equipped kitchen will be available on site, especially suitable for larger-scale cooking. There will also be a microwave and electric kettles, so basic survival is covered.
For those who would rather not deal with the eternal question of “what am I going to eat?”, we offer the option of ordering a lunch and dinner package for CZK 500. Meals will be arranged by the organisers. Please note that this is an informal arrangement, so it will not be possible to issue a receipt for the meal package.
The package includes:
chicken à la pheasant with rice,
meatballs with tomato sauce and pasta,
chilli con carne with rice,
bulgur risotto with chicken and spinach,
fried cheese with French fries.
The programme will be varied — ranging from scientific lectures and student contributions to fieldwork and evening activities.
You can look forward to talks by researchers and students, the M.A.G.A. game, a sampling trip in the surrounding area, and an evening microscopy session with the collected samples.
A detailed programme will be published later.
